Connections 2013

Finally, some time to blog about this! So, Tuesday I attended the Connections 2013 Conference ExactTarget hosted down in Indianapolis! I was invited through a Career Fair at Purdue by the UX Team Manager and went on down with other Purdue students. Today, I’m gonna share with you some interesting ideas I heard while there.

There were so many awesome ideas shared there by Kyle Lacy, ExactTarget CEO Scott Dorsey, and awesome inspirational leader Jim Collins. Here, lemme share with ya:

Trends that are happening now

-Moments Matter: People are focusing more on the single moments!

-Consumer Mobility: Mobile devices are on the rise! You know 48% of all emails are opened via mobile devices? Or 60% Twitter is from a mobile device?

-Brand Localization

-Content Personalization: Messages tailored to the individual, content tailored to the individual!

-Collaborative Consumption: Consumers show off and sell the product!

-Youtility: Marketing that’s wanted by consumers!

Some tips picked up:

Focus on what we have now, what’s becoming large now!  This moment matters!

Data is everything.

Product engagement is leveraging technology in brand new ways to connect with customers

Marketers have an unprecedented opportunity to lead. To think of the customer as an individual.. as a person.

Data Mining: “It’s okay to be creepy….just not REALLY creepy.”

Leadership: A great leader is one with humility AND resolve.  Leadership exists when people follow when they don’t have to.

And, perhaps my favorite:

Lead from Within.

This was only from one day at Connections.  The conference when on for three days.  I’m very thankful that I was able to attend this one day, for it opened up brand new ideas, turned on many lightbulbs.  Can’t imagine how next year will be.
